Seeing the extraordinary in ordinary objects such as pears is what I have sought to highlight in this large painting. A simple pair of pears is elevated with a gold leaf background, to highlight their intrinsic beauty. The use of gold leaf was inspired after seeing icon paintings of saints on a recent trip to Italy. The subjects appear to be supporting one another, as in a dance.
