Colour Me Happy
The vibrant coloured poppies are set against the gentler pale pink background in this painting. The thick impasto application of paint makes the poppies stand proud of the surface, the white table top lifts the composition while the fallen petals encourages your eyes to move across the painting.
I have used smooth brushwork for the background and impasto application for the flowers, stems and vase so the viewer sees contrasts in textures as well as in colours.
