I love the vibrant pink purple and orange poppies against the midnight blue background in this painting. The thick impasto application of paint makes the poppies stand proud of the deep blue behind and the white table top lifts the whole composition.

I have used smooth brushwork for the background and impasto application for the flowers, stems and vase so the viewer sees contrasts in textures as well as in colours.
