The warmth of the reds and oranges in the poppy heads evoke feelings of Summertime and inspired the title of this painting. The vibrant poppies contrast with a midnight blue background and white table top.

I have used smooth brushwork for the background and thick impasto application for the subject so the viewer sees contrasts in textures as well as in colours.
