Lively and vibrant multi-coloured poppies are set against the deepest, darkest of blue backgrounds to give striking visual contrast and interest. I see this as a joyful piece and the colours reminded me of Spanish fiestas which is how it got its title. Painting in thick layers of textured paint in a style called ‘impasto’ the colourful poppies stand proud of the background and this is framed in the ‘St Ives’ style without glass, so the textures may be fully appreciated.

The ‘St Ives’ style frame is hand built in Cornwall without glazing so the textural qualities may be fully appreciated. The frame is made from wood and painted white. The painting has been protected from UV light and dust with several coats of professional artist varnish.
