The poppies in this larger painting (almost 1m x 1m) are the colour of sunshine - warming reds and oranges, touching yellow in the colour spectrum. The vibrant poppies are set off against a deep midnight blue background and white table top.

I have used smooth brushwork for the background and thick impasto application for the subject so the viewer sees contrasts in textures as well as in colours.
