I loved pairing vibrant coloured flower with the verdant green background in this large poppy painting. The thick impasto application of paint makes the poppies stand proud of the background and the white table top lifts the whole composition.

Smooth brushwork in the background contrasts with impasto paint application for the flowers, stems and vase, giving this original composition a lively and joyful feel.
